In Year Applications
You can apply for your child to join Poole Grammar School in-year. For example, if your child is in Year 9 in another school you can apply for a transfer into Year 9 at Poole Grammar School.
However, no child will be accepted into Poole Grammar School unless they have met the academic standard and their entry into the school will not prejudice the efficient provision of education or use of resources.
A child with an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP) that names Poole Grammar School will always be admitted if they have met the academic standard.
In-year applicants will need to take an age appropriate GL Assessment English test and a GL Assessment mathematics test. The entry requirement is that the school will take students who are in the top 16% of ability for their age cohort.
Please note – Year 7 in-year applications cannot be made for students who have already sat the entrance tests for ‘normal Year 7 entry’ for that academic year unless 12 months have elapsed since the candidate sat the entrance tests.
In-year applications should be made via BCP Council. Further information can be found on the BCP Council website. When Poole Grammar School receives notification of an application from BCP Council the parent/carer of the applicant will be informed in writing, within 15 school days, of the next available date on which the student can take the entrance tests.
If an in-year applicant (without an EHCP that names Poole Grammar School) has met the required academic standard but their entry into the school would prejudice the efficient provision of education or use of resources then they will not be offered a place. In this situation parents/carers have the right to appeal the decision to not offer a place. Please see the section of this website on the ‘Admissions Appeal Process’ for further information.
