Headteacher’s Welcome
I am delighted to provide you with this introduction to Poole Grammar School. It is a unique environment: the pupils who study here, their teachers, the support staff; the richness of the academic, cultural, sporting and extra-curricular opportunities offered. It has been providing a first class education for the Borough of Poole since 1904 and the close ties it enjoys with the local community are evident in the number of Old Grammarians who play a leading role in the life of the town today and who return to the staff room.
I hope that as you navigate the site you get a feeling for a vibrant and forward-looking community where each individual is valued and can achieve his full potential whatever his talents and interests. We give boys many opportunities to grow into politely self-confident able young men who are equipped in a world where critical thinking, teamwork and independence of thought are essential for success. Our academic results place us in the premier division of grammar schools and are achieved by hard work – from our capable and enthusiastic staff and from the boys themselves. We seek to instil in them a love of learning and a respect for scholarship, and a willingness to make a positive contribution to their community. Our well-organised, supportive pastoral system, based on an open home-school dialogue, enables all students to make excellent progress and develop self-discipline and good judgement.
As a school we are committed to training the next generation of teachers, and to providing our staff with high quality professional development opportunities. We work closely with local schools and within the Sigma Teaching School Alliance and the South West Academic Trust to develop best practice in education. Whatever your interest, I hope you will decide to visit us to see for yourself what makes Poole Grammar School special for those of us who come to school here.
